Latifah AlSaad is a Graphic Designer and a certified Natural Science Illustrator. Growing up, Latifah was very much into arts and crafts. She regularly worked on projects with her mother whose work she admired. This led Latifah to pursue the arts, specifically Graphic Design. She attended the American University of Kuwait and graduated Cum Laude. While in school, Latifah experimented with different mediums and discovered her love for illustration using ink. She loved working with her hands and went on to submit pieces to a few local exhibitions. Throughout the years Latifah had also discovered her love for science and nature, which is apparent in her Art. She has found that she is particularly drawn to bones and plants.
Upon graduating from College, Latifah decided to familiarize herself further with the world of Science. She volunteered at the Natural History Museum of the LA County with the Entomology department, particularly on a project called "BioSCAN." She went on to spend a few months looking at and drawing fly genitalia. Her illustrations can be found published by the department in a scientific journal. Latifah also had a chance to demonstrate her Graphic Design skills by creating fly posters for both a convention and for the Entomology department.
Once her volunteer time was over, Latifah moved to Washington. There she pursued a certificate degree in Natural Science Illustration at the University of Washington. She got to draw everything from insects, to animals, to plants, and, her favorite, bones. Latifah's style of illustration uses a modified stipple technique using pen and ink.
Today, Latifah is experimenting with color and is working on adding more work to her portfolio. She hopes that one day she can make a difference through art.
